Walk times are estimates, not measurements. In Manhattan we work out how far you go along the avenues and how far along the streets, and add the two, because that is the path you actually walk; the grid sits about 29 degrees off true north, which is why a "straight line" on a map is not a walk. Elsewhere we do not yet claim to know the grid, so we take the straight line and multiply by 1.3. Either way we assume 1.25 metres a second carrying a bag, count from the street rather than the platform, up to the street, round to the nearest minute, and list nothing over 25 minutes. If we have ridden it and the number is wrong, the stop page says so and the ride wins.
